Desert Island BooksThis is a featured page

World Book Day LogoWhat book can't you do without? Imagine you are on a desert island.... all you have in your suitcase are ten books. These books have either shaped your life, given you pleasure or are simply indespensible. What would they be?

This was the question World Book Day 2007 put to the nation. The debate took place from February 1st on the World Book Day website , and allowed people to post their top ten and to discuss their choices with others around the world.

Add a comment below and let us know what book you can't live without .... and why. When leaving a review, please be careful not to write a plot spoiler. If this is unavoidable, mention the world 'spoiler' in the subject line.

When we asked members at Central and Portsea libraries in Portsmouth to nominate the book they would take with them onto a desert island, we received nearly 80 responses. Thanks to everyone who took the time to share their thoughts and recommendations.

Here's a list of the books that received the most nominations. Why not give them a try and tell us what you think?

I would never have anticipated the Bible being included on this list. Hardly a page turner is it?

although quite a good discworld book, i am concerned that alot of people are being put of the latter books by the "fantasy" connotations that where created by the early books. although they are all techneiquly fantasy, the later books, such as Thud, Going Postal, Making Money, Night Watch, and Monsterus Regiment are quite political. in the same way that "if you want to learn about Amarica today, them watch the Simpsons", the later Discworld books realy can tell us a lot about the world we live in today.

i hate it when books get typecast. the best ones are the later books.

Boring? nope. No way! The Bible has over 60 books, and alothough lots of chapters and verses are a bit boring, there are hundreds and hundreds of true and exciting page-turning stories in one big book. and who is it by? the one and only true God.
